FROM THE PASTOR – SUNDAY, MAY 31:
Dear Fatima Parishioners and Friends,
Well, we got off to a pretty good start last Sunday, our first Sunday to offer public Masses since March 17th. We offered three Masses, a vigil on Saturday at 6:00 pm and two on Sunday morning at 8:00 and 10:00 am. The new protocol for operations now call for a sanitization of the church after each Mass or before the next Mass, that is why we moved the Mass to 8:00 am to allow time for the church to be sanitized and to dry before the next one at 10:00 am. Members in attendence were encouraging but we still have room to spare before social physical spacing becomes a concern. While we can accomodate approximately 147 person in the large Church with no concerns it really depends upon the make up of the congregation that shows up. Families can be seated together making it the most efficient type of seating, while the same number of individuals would need considerably more space to be properly seated, so the moral of the story is to come as families as far as possible.
Our attendance numbers for last weekend were as follows, vigil 108, 8:00 am 75 and the 10:00 am was 109. Last weekend also was Memorial Day weekend so many of our families may have been “out of town” so this weekend’s attendance may be more accurate. We can still accommodate persons in the Cry Room and the vestibule. So, this weekend we will offer the same Mass schedule. If members continue to increase, we will consider offering a Sunday evening Mass in a few weeks’ time. Our weekly schedule is presently 6:20 am and 6:00 pm and when numbers pick up, we will again offer the 8:30 am Mass on Monday through Saturday.
This weekend is of course Pentecost Sunday, the 50th day since the Easter event, the Feast of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles and the birthday of the Church. We look forward to seeing more parishioners showing up today. From this week forward we now enter into “Ordinary” time on the calendar of the Church’s liturgy, no special celebrations but “ordered” liturgy as we go through the Summer months.
By August we hope to resume school operations here at Fatima, but the suggested guidelines for all schools to operate going forward certainly seem to be burdensome, impractical and expensive to implement. Schools will be struggling with how to implement these new guidelines (if possible) between now and school opening in August. The guidelines mandate/recommend only one child per every other seat on school buses, no communal use of the playground equipment etc. so all of these are major concerns for our elementary school and kids riding the bus to St. Patrick High School in a few months’ time. We will attempt to keep you informed on these matters and if they can be implemented in a practical and feasible manner.
In the meantime, we encourage you to come visit us on weekends, keep in touch, our office is open Monday – Friday for normal business hours and this bulletin can be e-mailed to you if you provide us with an e-mail address and a request. Today we remember how the Apostles “self-quarantined” for 50 days after Good Friday – but by Pentecost were ready to move out and do the task entrusted to them by their Lord and Master. We too have to get on with the task of living our faith, mindful of our own safety and that of everyone around us, so for the next few weeks as we begin to venture forth with “baby steps”, like the Apostles “testing the water” as we move forward. In the meantime, please be careful, come celebrate the Eucharist with us and remember the Church has never been sanitized so much as it has in the past week, also remember to continue to wash your hands.
Your Pastor – Fr. Henry.

Unless the eye catch fire, God will not be seen.

This year’s Icon is in honor of Our Lady, Help of Persecuted Christians. Since 1979, the Knights of Columbus have featured during their Marion Prayer Program images of: Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of Czestochowa, Our Lady of Pochaiv, Our Lady of the Assumption, Our Lady of the New Advent, Our Lady of the Rosary and Our Lady of Charity.
Congratulations to our Reinhart Schroeder Council Knights of Columbus, who, at their recent State Convention received the coveted status of Superior Council, one of only 64 councils within our state. This award was for them completing at least eight programs in each of the four categories along with other requirements this past year.
At Noon, on May 27th of this year, the Vatican in Rome formally announced and recognized the miracle attributed to the Venerable Fr. Michael J. McGivney, the founder of the Knights of Columbus. With this announcement, a Mass of Beatification should soon be scheduled.
